IT outsourcing/offshoring advisory

Multi-national bank - SAS 70 transition and contract build
Alsbridge

The client is a small multi-national Bank engaged in retail banking, wealth management, trust management and fund management. Its key jurisdictions include Bermuda, Caribbean Islands, the UK (including the Channel Islands) and Switzerland.

In 2007, one of the banks fund management businesses encountered a compelling business event requiring them to attain an SAS 7- type 1 Report within 12 weeks, moving to an SAS Type 2 Report within 6 months. The requirement was to bring the entire business operation into compliance with meaningfully defined Control Statements, including the IT systems, within 12 weeks of the initial event. It was rapidly evident that the IT systems could not be bought into such a state within the timeframe and Alsbridge was asked to help transfer the systems to a hosted environment with a supplier already operating with SAS 70 controls.

A fully functioning, offshore, hosted service was established inside 10 weeks. The benefits to the bank included a flexible contract which may become the basis for the future expansion of sourcing and a lighthouse project approach to building a repeatable, controlled environment. Alsbridge also delivered a strong vendor management function, a key stage to a future sourcing strategy.
